San Mateo County Health Department - Injury Prevention Program (IPP)
The IPP was established in January 2006 in response to the growing body of evidence that indicates that regardless of gender, race or economic status, injuries remain a leading cause of death and hospitalization for Americans of all ages. Each year injuries result in the death and hospitalization of more than 4,000 San Mateo County residents.
Working with the other Health Department programs, the IPP seeks to educate staff, clients and the general public about the numerous programs/resources available to assist them in their efforts to prevent injuries.
Current programs/projects include:
- Car seat inspection referrals
-
Poison prevention information
- Water safety - Water Watchers' Program
- Parent Support Line
- High School Seat Belt Challenge Project
- Sit and Be Fit - Balance and fall prevention workout programs for older adults
- Active for Life - Fitness resource guide for older adults
